Today more than ever, we are at risk for cognitive issues, and not just the normal signs from aging. People of all ages are dealing with symptoms of brain fog, memory loss, mental fatigue and confusion. Despite our personal struggles, the world continues to move at an alarmingly fast pace and can easily put you in a perpetual state of overwhelm. Whether it is not getting enough of key vitamins and minerals, the right balance of sugars and healthy fats; the brain will not be able to do it's job if it isn't nourished properly.


The Functional Medicine approach looks at the whole picture and works to get to the fundamental roots of what is out of balance. The Wellness Wheel shows the various areas of our lives that need to be taken into consideration as one area affects another. Does your daily lifestyle and routine promote adequate rest, provide daily movement, is rich in meaningful connections, allows for time in nature and gives you time for self-care? Do you eat balanced meals from foods from across the rainbow that are free of pesticides, herbicides or added chemicals? If not, you may be at risk for premature cognitive decline.


For those who have dementia or other cognitive issues in the family, you at a greater risk for cognitive issues due to genetics but that doesn't mean your fate is sealed. There is so much you can do now to give yourself the best odds of aging gracefully and maintaining independence and cognitive health. In addition to eating brain promoting foods, we can help our brain by reducing inflammation, lowering stress and anxiety, and finding more purpose.
